On November 18th, 2006, 100 years to the day, the sinking of the Dix was proclaimed by both mayors of Seattle and Bainbridge Island to be Dix Remembrance Day to commemorate the lives which were lost at sea in the worst maritime accident recorded in Puget Sound history. Captain of the ill-fated Dix was Percy A Lermond who was represented by his only living descendents, great granddaughters Debbi LerMond and Vicki Keeling of Duvall, WA. The only other surviving family represented at the ceremony was Charles Byler's granddaughter, Mary Harris and her family. Mary, Debbi and Vicki threw a wreath overboard to honor the passengers who were lost in the tradegy.
